LinkedIn released a report on the top 10 most sought-after marketing skills in 2021 based on what employers are looking for in job postings.
Half of the top 10 jobs posted on the platform are in the digital or media space, the report shows.
As a result, the most sought-after skills show an increasing reliance on technology, a growing trend towards using social media, and an ongoing relevance of SEO.
SEO is highlighted a few times throughout the report due to a particular demand for it Offpage SEO.
That’s a skill that can help marketers stand out, as the report shows, given that off-page SEO represents one of the biggest skill gaps in digital marketing.

Top marketing skills required
These are the skills for now most in demand for marketing jobs:

- Network analysis
- Sales promotion
- Administrative support
- Digital marketing
- Adobe Acrobat
- Retail sales
- Google Analytics
- Content Management Systems (CMS)
While press release writing is a must right now, LinkedIn predicts that by becoming an expert on social media and content marketing, marketers will be prepared for the future.
These are the marketing skills with that fastest growing Demand:
- Content Marketing
- Creative problem solving
- Brand awareness
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- Marketing automation
- Customer experience
- Facebook Marketing
In the labor market, employment has a lot to do with supply and demand.
LinkedIn has the marketing skills with the highest supply-to-demand ratio.
Here they are in the correct order, with the skills at the top in the larger offer and the skills below in the lesser offer:
- Digital marketing
- Social media
- Data science
- Graphic design
- Product marketing
- Corporate communication
- Sales activities
- Web development
In connection with the above, these are the largest skills gaps in digital marketing:
